Study Shows Ongoing Problem  

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) commissioned a report from New Horizons Foundation.  

The 52 page technical study reveals some disturbing numbers.  In the HVAC and Sheet Metal Industry, almost $16 billion is wasted annually due to lack of compatibility and interoperability of software used in estimating, scheduling, and production.  

The basic conclusions appear obvious in hindsight.  When programs such as scheduling and fabrication software can't talk to one another and share data, then data re-entry from one system to the next becomes a major chore.  

Further aggravating the problem, the more times manual data entry is necessary, the more opportunities exist for introducing costly errors.
